  Hypnobabies Instructor Training FAQ

Q) Does everyone need to have a telephone interview with Hypnobabies' Program Coordinator before being accepted into the Hypnobabies Instructor Training program?

A) Yes. Kerry, our Founder and Director and feels very strongly about training only people whose hearts are dedicated to making a positive impact on their community when it comes to childbirth and parenting issues! As Kerry says, Hypnobabies is not "adding a little hypno-birthing" to your current practice, childbirth class or doula meetings. Hypnobabies goes light-years beyond that and we need professionals with excellent training and personal commitment.

Q) I'm a Labor and delivery Nurse. Does that satisfy the Childbirth background requirements?

A) Yes, anyone with a nursing background is eligible to apply, and preferably L&D

Q) I'm a massage therapist, (or prenatal yoga instructor, prenatal exercise instructor, chiropractor, naturopath, aromatherapist, Hypno-mom, etc.) and am very impassioned to bring Hypnobabies to my community. Can I apply to this program?

A) Yes, and you will need to satisfy the requirements for both Childbirth and Hypnosis training. Those who have no background in childbirth can become trained by a doula organization, or take our Introduction to Childbirth Class, which is always held the day before each 4 day Hypnobabies Instructor Training.

Q) Where can I find a doula training organization?

A) There are many, but the main 3 organizations training doulas in the US are:

Q) I don't have a hypnosis background. Where should I go for training?

A) To satisfy the Hypnosis Background requirements for our training, you can:
  • Take a 50 hour hypnosis course in your area from a reputable hypnosis school. Some are 5 - 6 day classes, and some are 4 day classes with extra homework. They range in cost from around $500- $1800. You'll provide to us a copy of your training certificate, when your course is finished, and Hypnotherapy certification is not required. You can find a school by doing a web search for hypnosis schools.
  • Take an online self-study course from a reputable hypnosis organization such as Roy Hunter's Alliance Self-Empowerment. You'll provide to us a copy of your training certificate, when your course is finished. Cost: $595.00
  • Take our Hypnobabies Introduction to Hypnosis Self-Study Study Course, which we created from some of Roy Hunter's materials, with his permission. Roy allowed us to choose the materials that were most pertinent to our needs at Hypnobabies, from his own Introduction to Hypnosis course, and it allowed us to have a cost-effective yet very professional course with excellent content. Cost: $225.00. You may call to order this course after you have been approved into our Instructor Training Program, and your application has been received. (714) 952-BABY (2229),
Please see one of our Hypnosis pages for more information on hypnosis organizations.

Q) Do you have a local hotel with discount rates for those flying in to the training?

A) Yes, and after you are accepted into our Hypnobabies Instructor Training Program, you are provided with help and support for finding airports, hotel, shuttle services, restaurants, attractions, etc. We also have a Roommate List, where you can request to be paired up with another trainee for your hotel stay, to help defray your costs. (Most of our out-of town trainees choose this option, if they have not come with their family for a vacation!)

Q) What does the $795.00 Hypnobabies Instructor Training fee cover? Will I have to buy anything else to become certified, after my training is finished?

A) Included in your Hypnobabies Instructor Training fee are the following: All materials that you will need for the training process and to begin teaching Hypnobabies with; Instructor Manual, Scripts, Quick Reference Guide and Birth Partner's Guide Booklets, the Teaching Hypnobabies Manual, all 9 CDs, roughly 115 handouts, etc.

Also included are:

Breakfast every training day, with lunch on your own. (Although we usually all east lunch together so we can get to know each other!)

Your Hypnobabies Instructor Certification Fee, and your Instructor Listing Fee, for inclusion on Hypnobabies' "Find a Hypnobabies Class" page. (upon completion of certification)

A free listing on our "Find a Hypno-Doula" page for qualified doulas. (upon completion of certification)

Your training fee also includes (upon completion of certification) - 2 Hypnobabies Student Sets ($100.00 value) and a package of Hypnobabies marketing materials ($50.00 value). These are your materials that you will use to begin marketing your Hypnobabies classes and teach your first two Hypnobabies Students.

There is nothing else to buy when your training is finished, but we do have a Certification Process.

Q) When my Hypnobabies Instructor Training is finished, what is the Certification Process and how long will it take?

A) You will complete our Certification Exam after you have taken our Hypnobabies Instructor Training and pass with a score of 90% to become a Certified Hypnobabies Instructor. It is a two part process:

1) An open-book exam that consists of you using your Instructor's manual to answer the questions in your own words. It can take up to two hours to complete.
2) Create a Detailed Resource List of the professionals in your community who will help your students to have the best natural childbirth and postpartum experience possible. You will find and interview natural childbirth doctors, midwives, birth centers, lactation consultants and doulas, make sure that they are "hypno-friendly" and create your Student Resource List. After you have become a Certified Hypnobabies Instructor, you will give this list out to your Hypnobabies students after they have registered for your class. This helps your students have a better understanding of the best birth professionals in your area to choose from. Creating your Resource List also helps *you*, since you will get the opportunity to introduce yourself and Hypnobabies as you interview these professionals! Your Resource List may take only a few hours to complete if you already have contacts in your community to interview, or a few weeks if more work is necessary.

You will also sign and date a legal Hypnobabies Instructor Agreement which states that you will uphold the standards of Hypnobabies and teach our wonderful course as directed, with integrity, etc.

**You have 6 months from the last day of your Hypnobabies Instructor Training to complete our certification process.

Q) Is there a yearly Re-Certification process after I become a Certified Hypnobabies Instructor?

A) Yes. At the beginning of each year all Hypnobabies Instructors who are actively teaching complete a Re-Certification Exam and Agreement, and pay a $35.00 fee.
