"Textbook Childbirth Hypnosis":

Kerry,

I have meaning to sit down and type this email for quite some time. I just wanted to relay a brief synopsis of my birth and a big thank you for your wonderful program.

I completed a Hypnobabies home study course for the birth of my beautiful daughter, Sophia born on 6-9-2006. This was my first pregnancy and I strongly believed in Natural Child Birth. I completed some research online on what sort of methods I could use to prepare for this undertaking and all signs pointed to Hypnobabies.

I won't give you every detail about my birth but my labor was "textbook" childbirth hypnosis. I had a doula and she had never had the privilege of attending a birth where the laboring mother used hypnosis. I had given her the Hypnobabies workbook ahead of time so she was familiar with the techniques I would be using and she was on board with what I wanted her to do. Well, let me just say she is still talking about it! She said it was the most amazing birth she has ever attended and she wants me to be her Doula when her turn comes! She couldn't believe how focused I was and how none of the hospital staff believed her when I was having a contraction. It really was amazing!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful program and providing me with the skills to have the birth I wanted.

Sincerely,
~ Angela H
Epi that didn't work, baby born natural:

Dear Kerry,

I just wanted to update you on my delivery... We had our beautiful little Stephen Peter on November 17th at 8:44pm. I breezed through 11 hours of "labor" just by listening to my Hypnobabies CD's and doing my breathing (to the astonishment of family, friends, and medical staff - who were so wiling to learn about Hypnobabies). The staff were so good about being quiet while coming into my room and when they needed me to answer questions, they went to my husband first, who then used our "cue" to help me up from my hypnosis. My mother, I must say, was totally impressed with how I handled my "labor". She is still telling everyone how proud of me she was during the whole birthing experience and how strong she thought I was.

I did opt for an epidural (after much discussion with my nurse and OBGYN) because the baby's heart rate kept decreasing drastically low the last half hour -45 minutes of "labor", so the doctor had to break my water to get my "labor" moving quickly along or risk an emergency C-Section. Ironically, after being poked twice for the epidural, it didn't work due to kinked tubing, so I actually had a natural childbirth anyway after only 11 minutes of good pushing. My baby is perfect, thank God, is very laid back and pleasant.

Anyway, I just want to thank you for the wonderful education I have received using Hypnobabies at home Study Course. I can't wait to use it again the next time we are pregnant!! I absolutely think it was the best decision I could have made to help me through a tough pregnancy and birth!!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

P.S.: Hypnobabies will be my "shower gift" to all my women friends who are going to get pregnant from here on it... it's the absolute BEST thing!!!
"I'm not a hero when it comes to discomfort":

Kerry,

I wanted to express my gratitude for the Hypnobabies Program and let others know how much I would recommend Hypnobabies. My first introduction to Hypnobabies came from looking through a magazine in my OBGYN's office. The article caught my eye because it described the program and gave personal experiences of Hypno-mom's. I looked Hypnobabies up on the internet when I got home and liked what I read. I have used visualization and affirmations to help with personal growth and I knew this was the logical step to take to prepare for the birth of my second child.

During the weeks leading up to the birth, I followed the program and soon discovered I had a new feeling of peace about the upcoming event. Six years ago I gave birth to our first child. My second birth was more comfortable, relaxed and peaceful -the Hypnobabies CD's were playing in the background and even the hospital staff was impressed by the calming instructions.

When it comes to discomfort, I am not one who wants to be a hero. I knew that I would psyche myself out before the time came and that would not be good. The Hypnobabies program gave me the confidence to choose for myself how I wanted to experience the birthing. The easy birthing time was just that, "easy." I did feel the more "powerful" birthing. However, I knew that we were closer to welcoming our baby into the world. Everything was going right!!

The program is so well presented and easy to follow. And, I feel there are some universal truths that are presented in the program that can be used even after birth. Now that my son is born, I actually miss the CD's!

Thanks Again,

~ Trena C.

"It was Marvelous!"

My baby arrived! He's 7 lbs 15 ounces. He was born at 11:50 am after 2 hours of active labor and 25 minutes of pushing. Now, don't hate me yet, I think I had a full week of early labor (10 days after I lost my mucous plug). I kept trying to increase the intensity of the contractions (which were 5-15 minutes apart for many days) - by walking, sex, enemas, evening primrose oil, you name it - to no avail. They didn't hurt, but I was really getting tired (they were strong enough to keep me up between my Hypnobabies CDs).

We finally went to the hospital Wednesday morning - and the midwife broke my water. I don't remember any pain, only the intensity of the pushing stage. I spent some time walking, sitting on the birth ball with my Hypnobabies CDs, and in the whirlpool tub. All were so comfortable.

I did end up with a sizable tear, since Andrew had his hands up around his mouth as he was pushed out (very quickly due to his heartbeat slowing down near the end). But it's not nearly as bad as I imagined it would be.

All in all, it was marvelous. I highly recommend a doula - and I also did the Hypnobabies Home Study course. It really helped me prepare and think positive about the birth (despite the bombardment of horror stories from well meaning girlfriends). My husband was incredible - I find myself falling in love with him again all over again when I think of the incredible support he provided through labor!

"Almost Pain-free" - Hypno-baby Aurora Lynn's birth:

I used the Hypnobabies Home Study course and my birthing day went very well! My pressure waves started January 26th around 9:00 pm, so I was able to sleep through most of the night. I got up at about 3:45 am and kept moving and changing positions until we left for the hospital. My pressure waves were about 3 minutes apart and we arrived at the hospital at 7:31 am I was 4+ cm and at +1 station.

2 1/2 hours later, about 10:00 am, I was 8+ cm. My pressure waves were 90 seconds apart and lasting just as long. 45 minutes later I was 9+ cm so my OB broke my water so that I would complete faster.

Within five minutes of doing so I was pushing! Aurora Lynn was born at 11:36 am, just 4 hours and 5 minutes after our hospital arrival. Completely natural and almost pain free.

The only time I felt any pain was the last push to get her head out! I did not have to use and of my CDs as just having my husband by my side kept me very relaxed. It was the most wonderful experience of my life!!!!

Rachel's 4th Baby, first Hypno-baby! And Hubby is an OB!!

It all started one evening when my brother asked my dh and me to watch a movie with him. It was already late so I told him I wanted to pass and get some sleep. He insisted telling me it was such a good movie it would probably throw me into labor from the excitement. Well I'm not sure the movie was THAT good but sure enough by the end I had pressure waves coming every 5 minutes. I was pretty surprised that they started so close and so consistent, but they weren't particularly strong so I told my dh to go ahead and get some sleep because he might not get another chance. This was baby #4 so he didn't hesitate knowing this could be a very long night. The pressure waves continued at 5 minutes apart but they weren't painful they just kept me awake. I listened to my Hypnobabies Deepening CD which really helped me settle down and just relax from the initial "This is it" excitement......Rachels' Full Hypnobabies Birth Story Here.
Cholastasis pregnancy, Cytotec induction, and still a wonderful birthing:

Areli's birth: I love Hypnobabies; it does work and your body and your mind can do amazing things! To the moms in my itchymoms.com group, hang in there! We can deal with ICP and still get the birth we want! Some called me stubborn, first because the doctor wouldn't diagnose me with ICP even though it was my 4th time with it, and second because I just knew that even though we were going to have to induce the birth, I wanted things to be as close to my ideal birth as possible. I'm just thankful that everything turned out so well for us, and that my baby is safe and sound. So here it goes ...

Not as planned..Pitocin - WOW!

Jocelyn came into the world on March 4th at 3:15pm after a long labor of love. My water broke early Friday morning 3:45am much to my surprise. I woke up and gush! We were so excited after being over due a couple of days we went ahead and packed the car, called the midwife and doula to let them know and hoped labor would get started soon. Much to my dismay, I labored at home until 11:00pm and hadn't been doing much. DH and I had some cuddle time, tried homeopathics and took a nice long walk but they still weren't coming real regularly but decided it was time to go in. I was barely 4cm but close enough to be admitted.....
Tammy's 4th and largest baby; "easiest delivery":

At 4:30 in the morning on January 13th, I woke up needing to use the bathroom. Upon returning to bed, I tried to go back to sleep, only to realize I was having a fairly strong contraction. My BH waves had actually decreased a bit over the last few weeks (once the stress of the holidays was over!) so I figured that it was just my body gearing up for birthing time, as I was due the following week (Jan 19th). After the 3rd or 4th contraction in rapid succession, I decided to get up and take a shower. I figured the water would relax me, and if these were just practice waves, they'd slow down a bit and taper off. My dh came into the bathroom a few minutes later wanting to know what was going on. I'm a night owl, so hearing me in the shower at 4:45 AM, he knew something was up. I told him that he should go get ready. He asked if he should call my mom, and I told him I didn't think so yet.........

I'm finally getting around to writing up Ari's birth story.

Wednesday, after a fantastical day roaming the mall and chowing down at Olive Garden with my husband Dave and our son, I came home and put DS down for a much needed nap. After he was settled, I utilized some private time to take care of some personal needs in the restroom. Ummmm, there was what is termed "bloody show".

I started to get kind of excited. I had bloody show with DS, but that was at 3:00 a.m. the day before he was born - so I wasn't wanting to get too excited. Calmly dialing my midwife I tried to relax so that whatever progress was coming wouldn't get reversed by an exorbitant amount of adrenaline.......

Natural Birth of Jillian Kathleen Graham

Fourth Birth in a Hospital with a Hypno-doula

Born on 1/24/2009 at 6:47 PM

Weighing 6 lbs. 6 oz. and Measuring 19.5 in.

In my Hypnobabies study, I visualized going into labor on Friday, 1/23, at 38 weeks plus 5 days.  With both of my previous non-induced births, I went into labor on a Friday, so my mind naturally went to the same day of the week.  Then, a few weeks out from that date, I mentally set a goal to make it through 1/23 before going into labor.  I needed to finish up a major project at work that week, I had a three hour spa appointment (a Christmas gift from my employees) scheduled for that morning, and my husband and I planned to take our twelve year old daughter out to a nice dinner that night.  I literally told myself that I had permission to have the baby after dinner on Friday night.  I even put the date of 1/24 on the birth announcements that I mocked up a few weeks before.  The mind is a very powerful thing, so 1/23 is when our birth story began…

Baby Abram’s Birth - Suzanne’s 2nd hypno-birth, this time with Hypnobabies. "It was the ideal birth!"

My first son was born nearly 6 years prior to Abram’s birth.  He was exactly 14 days overdue by the time he was born.  I used Hypnobirthing (Mongan method) during my pregnancy to prepare and also hired a Hypnobirthing doula.  My birthing time began in a freestanding birth center.  I stayed there for 24 hours.  By the time I transferred to the hospital I had been “birthing” for about 30 hours.  I was physically exhausted and desperately needed some rest.  I received pitocin and an epidural.  I was finally able to rest and sleep some.  My son was born after 46 hours of total labor.  It had been difficult due to the exhaustion, but was overall a pleasant experience.  I really enjoyed the actual “pushing” and felt absolutely elated when he was finally born.  Although I really dreaded going to the hospital, the experience was still wonderful.  My doctor did not insist that I have a c-section even though many other doctors would have at that point.  He gave me time and allowed me to rest and I was able to successfully push out a 9 lb. 4 oz. baby boy without even a tear or episiotomy.  My recovery was wonderful and easy.  I truly believed that without the hypnosis preparation I had my very long first birth would have been unbearable and probably ended in a c-section.  My ability to cope with the difficulty had definitely been improved by my relaxation practice throughout pregnancy......
